Minister of Defense of Somalia Wins Executive Leader of the Year 2024

Mogadishu (LM) In a significant recognition of leadership and commitment, the Minister of Defense of Somalia has been awarded the title of Executive Leader of the Year 2024, following a voting process conducted by Leadership Magazine-Somalia. The online voting engaged a wide audience, reflecting the minister’s influence and the public’s appreciation for his efforts.

This accolade highlights the minister’s dedication to strengthening Somalia’s defense capabilities and enhancing national security. Under his leadership, the Ministry of Defense has implemented several key initiatives aimed at modernizing the armed forces and improving the welfare of military personnel.

In response to the award, the Minister expressed gratitude to the voters and emphasized the importance of collaboration in achieving national goals. “This recognition is not just mine; it reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team. Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur has been serving as the Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia since December 26, 2021.

Previous Roles: Before his current appointment, he held the position of Minister of Justice, where he played a pivotal role in passing significant agreements to combat corruption, including:

  • United Nations Convention against Corruption
  • African Union Convention on Prevention and Control of Corruption
  • Arab Agreement to Fight Corruption
  • From 2017 to 2018, Mr. Nur served as the Deputy Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency, where he was instrumental in strategic oversight and daily management of national security operations.
  • Diplomatic Career: Mr. Nur was a diplomat at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia in Ankara from 2012 to 2017, where he held various positions and undertook numerous responsibilities.
  • Earlier Experience: Prior to his diplomatic service, he was the head of Security at Villa Somalia, the Presidential Palace.
  • Education: He holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Ankara University, Turkey.
  • Personal Life: Mr. Nur is married and has children.
