Somalia Joins Sustainable Transport Policy Program (SSATP)

Cotonou, Benin ( LM) In a significant move towards modernizing its transport sector, the Federal Government of Somalia has officially joined the Sustainable Transport Policy Program (SSATP). The announcement was made yesterday during a conference in Cotonou, where Mr. Bashir Moalim Ali Hassan, the Director General of the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation, led the Somali delegation.
In his address, Mr. Hassan emphasized Somalia’s dedication to enhancing transport technology, expanding and modernizing the nation’s ports and airports, and upgrading the civil aviation system. He underscored the importance of strengthening regional partnerships and cooperation among African nations to develop sustainable transport solutions.
“We are committed to aligning our efforts with the Somali National Transformation Plan and promoting regional integration, especially within the East African Community (EAC) and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA),” Mr. Hassan stated. He also extended gratitude to the SSATP leadership and member countries for their support.
Somalia’s membership in SSATP is poised to transform the country into a key trade hub, facilitating the movement of goods and people while bolstering economic ties throughout the region. This strategic partnership marks a crucial step in Somalia’s journey toward a modern and efficient transport infrastructure.
