Somalia and Italy Strengthen Labor Cooperation

Mogadishu-(LM) The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs of the Federal Government of Somalia, Mr. Yusuf Mohamed Aden, held a productive meeting with the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy to Somalia, Amb. Pier Mario Daccò Coppi, at the Italian Embassy in Mogadishu.

The discussions centered on enhancing labor institutions in Somalia and creating job opportunities for its citizens. Mr. Aden emphasized the importance of Italy’s support in developing the labor sector, highlighting the need for sustainable job creation, particularly for the youth.

Both leaders explored strategies to equip Somali youth with the necessary skills to thrive in the labor market. They underscored the significance of education and vocational training in fostering a capable workforce.

A key topic of discussion was the Decent Work Agenda, an international initiative aimed at promoting workers’ rights, reducing unemployment, and improving work quality. The two sides expressed their commitment to collaborating on this initiative to ensure better working conditions and opportunities for Somali workers.

Additionally, they agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation on employment and social development issues, paving the way for a more robust partnership between Somalia and Italy. This meeting marks a significant step towards improving the labor landscape in Somalia and fostering economic growth through collaborative efforts.
