Somali Disaster Management Agency and Chinese Ambassador Discuss Community Development Initiatives

Mogadishu, Somalia – The Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mr. Mahmoud Moalin Abbdille, held a significant meeting in Mogadishu with Ambassador Wang Yu, the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Somalia. The discussions centered on financing projects aimed at enhancing resilience and community development in Somalia.

Key topics included flood preparedness, the implementation of major dams and watersheds, and the construction of robust dams. The meeting also addressed the urgent need for drilling water wells and other essential services to support local communities.

Ambassador Wang expressed the Chinese Government’s commitment to strengthening humanitarian assistance in Somalia. The two leaders explored ways in which China could support SoDMA in building donor reserves and improving the capacity and knowledge of its staff. “We recognize the importance of equipping your teams with the necessary resources for effective relief efforts,” Wang stated.

Mr. Abbdille emphasized the critical role that international partnerships play in enhancing Somalia’s disaster preparedness and response capabilities. “Collaboration with our global partners is essential for achieving sustainable development and resilience against natural disasters,” he noted.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to work together on these vital projects, underscoring the importance of international cooperation in addressing Somalia’s pressing challenges.
