Senior Somali Military Commander Killed near Afgoye Town

Afgoye, Somalia – (LM) A tragic incident occurred on Saturday in the Addow Dibille area near Afgoye town, where Colonel Nur Farey, the commander of the 14th Brigade, was shot and killed by an assailant dressed in military uniform. Eyewitnesses reported that the attacker approached Colonel Farey while he was addressing soldiers and shouted a word repeatedly before opening fire, fatally injuring him.
An investigation is currently underway to determine whether the assailant was an infiltrator from the Al-Shabaab militant group. Colonel Farey was actively leading efforts to mobilize forces aimed at recapturing Awdhegle town from Al-Shabaab control.
The 14th Brigade, which Colonel Farey commanded, was established in memory of the victims of the October 14, 2017 terrorist attack in Mogadishu. This devastating attack, which took place at the K-5 junction, resulted in the deaths and injuries of over 1,000 people, marking it as the deadliest terrorist incident in Africa.
