Prime Minister Hamsa Announces Launch of Digital Services in Somalia

Mogadishu (LM) Speaking at Ministers Council Meeting, Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre revealed the government’s initiative to launch a digital service in Somalia, marking a significant step towards modernizing the country’s identification systems. This initiative aims to integrate the National Identity Card with essential public services, addressing over 34 years of identity challenges faced by Somali citizens.
During the conference, Prime Minister Hamsa emphasized the importance of embracing digital solutions as a cornerstone for development across various sectors, including economic, political, and security realms. He stated, “The use of digital is a development opportunity that lays the foundation for all our plans. Somalia has the potential to become a model for development in the region and beyond.”
The integration of the National Identity Card will not only streamline access to government services but also enhance the efficiency of civic processes. This initiative is expected to foster greater trust between citizens and the government, paving the way for improved governance and community engagement.
