Prime Minister Hamsa Abdi Barre Inaugurates NIRA Center in Las-Anod

Las-Anod (LM) The Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mr. Hamsa Abdi Barre, officially inaugurated the National Identity Registration Agency (NIRA) center in Lascaanod City, the administrative hub of SSC-Khaatumo.

The new NIRA center is set to provide vital services to the local community, allowing residents to obtain their National Identity Cards (National ID) without the need to travel long distances. This initiative aims to enhance access to identification services, which are essential for participating in civic life and accessing various services.

During the inauguration, Prime Minister Hamsa emphasized the importance of national registration and identification. “A citizen must be registered and have identification, as this is a constitutional provision,” he stated. He expressed satisfaction that the Khaatumo community will now have easier access to these services, noting that the President will be the first person to be registered at the new center.

The Prime Minister highlighted that national identification is a constitutional right, fundamental to the development goals of the nation. He reiterated the government’s commitment to re-establishing a digital National Identity Card system, ensuring that citizens’ data is secure and accessible.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in enhancing civic engagement and promoting a sense of identity among citizens in the SSC-Khaatumo region. The establishment of the NIRA center is expected to facilitate further development and integration of the community into national systems
