NEOC Director Emphasizes Urgent Response to Drought Crisis and Vulnerable Communities

Mogadishu (LM) Hassan Abdukadir Isse, the Director of the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) at the National Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), welcomed attendees to the crucial three-month Country Humanitarian Forum (CHF) held in Galkayo City. The forum aims to address emergency relief efforts amid ongoing challenges related to drought and displacement.

“This meeting is important as we gather here to discuss the pressing issues facing our country,” Isse stated. “Today, we are focusing on how to effectively respond to the drought crisis and the needs of vulnerable communities.”

The CHF is jointly organized by the Relief and Disaster Management Authority and the Galmudug Ministry of Relief. It brings together key stakeholders, including government officials, humanitarian organizations, and community leaders, to collaborate on developing actionable strategies. This year’s theme, “Strengthening Humanitarian Resilience: Addressing Droughts, Displacement, and Emergency Response in Somalia,” reflects the pressing challenges at hand.

“We are hopeful that effective measures will emerge from this conference,” Isse added. “Our goal is to find sustainable solutions that will help us address the future challenges of drought and displacement, particularly for those in the Somali community with special needs.”

As discussions unfold, participants are expected to share insights and propose initiatives aimed at bolstering community resilience and improving emergency response mechanisms. The forum serves as a vital platform for fostering collaboration and enhancing support systems for those affected by the ongoing crisis.

“We must unite our efforts to ensure that no one is left behind,” Isse emphasized, highlighting the importance of inclusive approaches in humanitarian response. “Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those who are suffering.”

The outcomes of this conference will play a significant role in shaping future disaster management strategies and improving the overall well-being of vulnerable populations in Somalia.
