Kabila Plans Return to DR Congo Amid Growing Crisis

Mogadishu (LM) Former Congolese President Joseph Kabila has announced his imminent return to the Democratic Republic of Congo after several years of absence. In a statement to RFI, Kabila expressed concern over the country’s “out of control” situation, highlighting deteriorating security conditions and the collapse of national institutions.

While he did not specify an exact date for his return, sources close to Kabila indicate he may arrive in the coming days, particularly through the eastern region, which he described as being in critical danger.

For the past year, Kabila has resided in South Africa, focusing on a thesis regarding Congo’s relations with China. However, it appears that this project has been set aside as he prepares for his return.

Kabila’s comeback aligns with the political maneuvers of his party, the People’s Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD), which recently rejected President Félix Tshisekedi’s invitation for national unity talks. This development suggests a potentially tumultuous political landscape as Kabila re-enters the Congo amid escalating challenges.
