Global AI Summit Africa Launched in Kigali

Kigali-(LM) The Global AI Summit Africa officially launched today, bringing together key stakeholders to discuss innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable growth across the continent. The event was attended by the African Union Commission Chairperson, H.E. Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, AU Commissioner for Infrastructure & Energy, H.E. Lerato Mataboge, and AfCFTA Secretary-General, H.E. Wamkele Mene.

This summit builds on the African Union’s historic adoption of the Continental AI Strategy in February 2025, marking a crucial step toward establishing Africa as a leader in the responsible development of artificial intelligence. The discussions aim to foster collaboration among nations, enhance digital capabilities, and promote sustainable practices that align with the continent’s development goals.

H.E. Youssouf emphasized the importance of leveraging AI to address Africa’s unique challenges and opportunities, while H.E. Mataboge and H.E. Mene highlighted the potential for AI to drive economic growth and improve infrastructure across the region.

The gathering represents a significant commitment from African leaders to harness technology for inclusive development and position the continent at the forefront of the global AI landscape.
