Somali Ambassador to China Attends International Chinese Language Day Celebration

Beijing (LM) Dr. Hodan Osman Abdi, the Federal Republic of Somalia Ambassador to China, participated in the International Chinese Language Day celebration at the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU). The event drew international dignitaries, including China’s Vice Minister of Education, Mr. Wu Yan.

Ambassador Hodan expressed her pleasure at including the Somali language in BFSU’s curriculum, noting its popularity among Chinese students. She announced plans for Somali universities to introduce Chinese language programs, aimed at enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation between Somalia and China.

“Learning languages is an important way to build deep ties and lasting friendships,” stated Ambassador Hodan.

The Chinese language is experiencing rapid global growth, with over 75 countries officially incorporating it into their educational systems. Additionally, more than 500 Confucius Institutes across over 100 countries play a significant role in promoting the study of the Chinese language and culture.
