President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Meets with President Erdoğan in Ankara

Ankara, Turkey – (LM) The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, held a significant meeting with His Excellency Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, President of Turkey, at the Presidential Palace in Ankara. The discussions focused on strengthening the bilateral relations between the two nations, rooted in brotherhood and strategic cooperation.

Both leaders underlined the importance of advancing the implementation of existing agreements and enhancing cooperation between Somalia and Turkey. President Hassan and President Erdoğan delved into the ongoing operations against Khawarij terrorism, which poses a significant threat to regional stability and development. They praised the fruitful collaboration in rebuilding the Somali National Army and efforts to diminish the influence of terrorism in the region.

President Hassan expressed his gratitude to the Turkish government and its people for their unwavering support of Somalia. He highlighted Turkey’s prominent role in reforming Somalia’s security institutions and its commitment to combating the Khawarij. “Your support has been instrumental in our fight against terrorism and the rebuilding of our nation,” he stated.

In response, President Erdoğan reaffirmed Turkey’s commitment to continue supporting Somalia, particularly in counter-terrorism efforts, as well as providing technical and humanitarian assistance. “Turkey stands firmly with Somalia in its journey towards peace and stability,” Erdoğan remarked.

The meeting underscores the deepening ties between Somalia and Turkey, reflecting a shared commitment to cooperation and the pursuit of peace in the region.
